fix(server): read continued core.bare values during onboarding - #30174
onboarding omitted linked checkouts of bare repositories when core.bare continued across physical lines. git read true, but the scanner treated these checkouts as ordinary linked worktrees and skipped them.
change
join logical config lines before classifying the repository, preserving comments and escaped backslashes. retain the final continued line when the file has no final newline. the regression assertion in the existing parser test failed before the eof fix and passes afterward.
verification
verified head 70d3a45b4167a4c28d608df59812999b260fde1c in a running linux dev app with repo playwright and system chrome. created real projects and codex gpt-6.1-sol turns through the web client. reproduced the omission on github/main, then imported the bare checkout and its original conversation on this head and completed a real follow-up turn. plain bare values, quoted continuations after comments, and continued eof input all passed through the web onboarding scanner. normal repositories still appear; ordinary linked worktrees stay excluded.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — The parser now recognizes continued core.bare values so onboarding can offer linked worktrees of bare repositories. The change is confined to read-only repository classification and introduces no product-default or diagnostic-suppression changes.

The Git config parser now joins eligible backslash-continued lines before isBareGitConfig applies its existing parsing. Tests cover a continued value after a comment and a continuation at end of input.

gitConfigLines joins eligible continued lines, and isBareGitConfig parses the joined lines. Tests cover a continued value after a comment and a continuation at end of input.

Explanation
The title "fix(server): read continued core.bare values during onboarding" matches the main change. The raw summary places the change in packages/shared/src/git.ts, where isBareGitConfig now joins backslash-continued config lines before the bare-setting check. The title names the affected area (onboarding) rather than the shared package, but it states the primary behavior change and the conventional commit format is followed.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description supplies a clear problem statement, a change summary, and detailed verification with commands, outcomes, and screenshots. It does not follow the required template. The Scope and approval section is missing: it has no linked triaged issue or maintainer-approved discussion, and no explanation of why the fix qualifies without one. The title is not written in the conventional commit form the template asks for, and the headings use lowercase instead of the template's section names (Problem, Change, Scope and approval, Verification). The description also does not state the model and harness in the required closing line, though it does name gpt-6.1-sol and the codex harness.
Resolution
Add a '## Scope and approval' section. Link the triaged bug issue or the maintainer-approved discussion, including the approval comment. If no issue exists, explain why this small, focused fix of an obvious bug qualifies without prior approval. Rename the sections to match the template: '## Problem', '## Change', '## Scope and approval', and '## Verification'. Confirm the PR title uses a conventional commit format in plain language. Keep the existing verification detail. Note that native desktop, mobile, and remote connection paths were not tested, as already stated.

Yield the continued core.bare line at end of input.
When a Git config has no final newline and its last physical line ends with \, gitConfigLines never yields that logical line. A bare = true setting on that line is dropped. isBareGitConfig then returns false. AgentSessionScanner takes the non-bare branch for a linked worktree and assigns Worktree, which skips the repository identity and origin lookup. Git reads the same config as core.bare=true.

Update gitConfigLines to yield any remaining pending logical line after
processing all input, so a final backslash-continued line without a newline is

isBareGitConfig can detect core.bare=true in that final line.

Reject unterminated quoted values at EOF.
When a continuation ends inside a quoted value, the EOF pending yield produces an unterminated value that parseGitConfigValue accepts as true. Git rejects this configuration. Preserve the EOF yield for unquoted trailing-backslash values, but yield it only when the continuation is not inside an open quote.

Confirmed against Git on current main. Follow-up #30743 handles unfinished quoted continuations with and without a final newline, while preserving valid continuations.

@imharjot Thanks for confirming against Git and linking #30743. That follow-up addresses the reported cases with and without a final newline while preserving valid continuations. I’ll leave this finding open here because the fix is in a separate PR.
reproduced on github/main: git read the continued core.bare value as true, but web onboarding omitted its linked checkout. the original head restored normal continuation input but still dropped a continued final line without a newline. fixed that case in 70d3a45b4167a4c28d608df59812999b260fde1c with a final pending-line yield and an assertion in the existing test. pushed to the existing pr head without rewriting history.
ran one real dev server at a time on this linux vm, using repo playwright and /usr/bin/google-chrome. created projects and real codex gpt-6.1-sol conversations in the web app. onboarding now offers the bare checkout, imports its original history, and the imported thread completes a real codex follow-up. repeated the web scanner with plain true, a quoted continuation after a comment-ending backslash, and continued eof input. normal repositories remain offered; ordinary linked worktrees remain excluded.
