fix(server): linked environments pick up the other machine's new name - #29779
When this environment links to another one (Settings → Labs → Linked environments), it saves the other machine's name at link time and never updates it. That name comes from the other machine's computer name or hostname. If someone renames that machine and restarts T3 Code there, this environment keeps the old name everywhere: the Linked environments list, t3_environment_links output for agents, and messages like "The link to … expired". The only way to refresh it today is to link again with a new pairing code.
Every forwarded call (resolve) and every listing (list) already fetches the peer's descriptor from the link's own saved addresses and checks its environment id, but the label it returns is ignored.
Change
resolve and the list status probe now keep the label from that checked descriptor. When it differs from the saved one, they update peer_environment_links.label and return the link with the new name. A failed write is logged and ignored, so it never blocks the call. This follows the existing fenced pattern in resolve, which already reads the matching descriptor the same way.
The public describe(url) probe is not changed. It can be pointed at any address, and an unrelated server could claim the peer's environment id there. Only the link's saved addresses, which already decide where the token goes, can rename it.
Scope and approval
Very small, focused fix for an obvious bug, so no prior issue: the server already receives the current name on every call and drops it. This is the server-side counterpart of open bug #15683 and open PR #27542, both about saved client environments keeping an old label. Those cover only the client catalog, not server-to-server links. Overlap search (local PR index plus REST search for "peer link label" and "linked environment renamed") found nothing else that refreshes peer link labels. #26551 also touches resolve, but it only changes route preference, so the two changes do not overlap.
Verification
New test in PeerLinks.test.ts, "a linked peer that is renamed shows its new name". It fails on main with AssertionError: expected 'Box' to be 'Box Mini', and passes with the fix. It covers resolve, the stored row read by get, and list.
vp test run src/peer/PeerLinks.test.ts (apps/server): 13 passed. I re-ran it after rebasing onto the Effect 4.1.2 upgrade.
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck and tests all pass.
Not checked: a real rename of a second machine.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Linked environments now refresh saved machine names when listing or resolving peers. The change only updates display-label metadata using existing identity-checked probes, leaving access and credential handling unchanged.

Walkthrough
Peer link listing and resolution now return labels from matching peer descriptors. Resolution updates the stored label when it differs. A test checks label changes through resolve, get, and list.

Explanation
The title names the main change: linked environments now pick up a peer machine's renamed label. The changeset matches this. It refreshes the stored label in resolve and list, and it adds a test for the rename. The title follows conventional commit form and fits the 10-word, single-sentence guideline.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template. It has Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections. The Problem section gives the stale-name behavior, the affected surfaces, and the workaround. The Change section explains the label refresh in resolve and the list probe, and it explains why describe(url) is left unchanged. The Scope section cites a very small, focused bug fix and lists related open issue and PR. The Verification section names the new failing-then-passing test, the test command with results, the check:changed run, and what was not checked. The template's comment asks for a conventional commit title; the title satisfies that. Minor gap: the template asks for the approval link or comment on scope, and the author gives a qualification rationale instead, which the template explicitly allows for a very small, focused fix.

Assert persistence after the list refresh.
The test checks only the label returned by list. Add a get assertion after the list probe so it also detects a refresh that updates the returned value but does not persist it.

After the list refresh assertion in the test, call a.links.get for
box.environmentId and assert the stored link’s label is “Box Studio,” confirming
the refreshed value was persisted.
Added the persistence assertion from CodeRabbit's suggestion in 47e3da6. The renamed-peer test now also calls get after the list probe, so it catches a refresh that returns the new label without saving it. I checked that it guards the change: with the list path's save skipped, the new assertion fails ("Box Studio" expected, "Box Mini" stored). With the fix restored, PeerLinks.test.ts passes 13/13 and vp run check:changed passes.

reproduced on github/main (61c3794c32): after changing the peer's linux pretty hostname and restarting it, its descriptor advertised Takeover-Peer-Renamed, but settings and the agent's t3_environment_links still returned Takeover-Peer.
the exact pr head refreshed that same saved link in settings and agent output without re-pairing.
renamed/restarted again, then asked codex to call forwarded t3_project_list before listing links. forwarding succeeded. a read-only database query confirmed Takeover-Peer-Studio was persisted with the same environment id and url, without renewing credentials. the subsequent agent listing returned the new name.
stopping the peer preserved its name and showed "Not answering right now." restarting restored "Reachable".
blacksmith checks passed: 13 focused peer-link tests and vp run check:changed (format, lint, knip, graphql, typechecks, 14 tests). existing github ci was green. no code changes or pushes were needed.

native ios/android, electron shell, macos/windows computer-name probes, tailscale/relay/tunnel routes, other providers, expired credentials, write-failure recovery, and identity-mismatch behavior were not exercised in the real app. both environments ran on this linux vm over loopback with separate identities and data directories. current main has one newer database migration than this pr; copied task-only state logged that warning, but exercised paths and checks passed.
