Fix Windows coverage wheel-build stack overflow - #3331
Run cuda-core wheel preparation on an 8 MiB worker-thread stack for Windows coverage builds.
This addresses the stack overflow observed after switching to uv-managed Python, whose executable reserves less stack than the previous official Python build. Restore the previous stack setting after preparation and propagate failures. Other build configurations retain their existing behavior.
Validation: 136 build-hook tests passed, 3 skipped; Ruff and formatting checks passed. Windows coverage CI confirmation remains pending.

including an unchanged or incorrect value. Require the expected `800000`
hexadecimal value for 8 MiB, or parse and compare it numerically.

The Windows wheel-building workflow now configures and verifies an 8 MiB stack reserve for its base Python interpreter before building wheels. This updates the automated packaging process only; it does not change application features, user-facing behavior, or exported interfaces.
The Windows wheel-build workflow sets the base Python executable’s stack reserve to 8 MiB before building wheels, then checks the reserve value with dumpbin.

Capture threading.stack_size() inside prepare and assert that the Windows coverage worker observes 8 * 1024 * 1024. Assert the previous value for the other matrix cases. The current test checks thread selection and restoration, but not the stack-size value that prevents the Windows coverage failure.

Suggesting a simpler alternative: leave build_hooks.py alone and raise the base interpreter's stack reserve in coverage.yml. Add this step to the "Build Wheels (Windows)" job after "Set up MSVC":
- name: Raise the interpreter's stack reserve to 8 MiB# Importing the coverage-built cuda.bindings.driver overflows the# 2,000,000-byte main-thread stack of python-build-standalone (#3330).run: | base_py="$(.venv/Scripts/python -c 'import sys; print(sys._base_executable)')" editbin -nologo -stack:8388608 "$base_py" dumpbin -nologo -headers "$base_py" | grep -i "size of stack reserve"
The venv python.exe is only a launcher for sys._base_executable, so this covers pip's build subprocess and everything else in the job. The interpreter lives under RUNNER_TEMP, so the change is discarded with the runner. Use - flags: Git Bash rewrites /STACK:-style arguments into paths.
I verified this locally on Windows with the CI interpreter (uv 0.13.6, CPython 3.14.10), CUDA_PYTHON_COVERAGE=1, CUDA 13.4, and the coverage-built bindings wheel:
Stack reserve (bytes)
import cuda.bindings.driver
cuda-core wheel build
2,000,000 (stock)
stack overflow
fails, exit code: 3221225725 after "Using cuda-bindings ..."
2,250,000
stack overflow
not run
2,500,000 to 4,000,000
ok
not run
8,388,608 (editbin)
ok
Successfully built cuda-core
So the import needs between 2.25 and 2.5 MB of stack, and python.org's 3,000,000 bytes was not much above that. 8 MiB matches what ci/tools/run_pytest_with_stack.py already uses for the coverage test runs.
Compared with this PR, the workflow step keeps a CI-only problem out of the shipped build backend and its tests. It also covers build_editable and any other hook that imports the bindings, which the worker-thread change does not.
One local difference from CI: I used VS 18 Build Tools (MSVC 14.51) rather than VS 2022.
