With Processing 4.3, I can browse the file system, and I notice that the browsing window is quite different :

I don't now enough about Linux nor Processing core to do so but I can perform tests

I think this came up on the forums as well. A workaround for the time being is to add the following line to preferences.txt:

chooser.files.native=false

I'd like to work on this one.

Does this resolve the problem in the unpackaged build as well? (It doesn't seem to fix it when I build locally)

I didn't find a definite lead on what happened to break this, after poking at it in a few directions (gradle includes, searching for similar problems online, tracing through from breakpoints). I got as far as staring intently at the FileDialog object that's created in Base.java, and wondering if it wasn't just a better solution to set chooser.files.native=false by default for Linux builds. (then life got busy and I forgot about this for a while, whoops)

In this Kubuntu VM it seems to be solved with the portable version

Yep, I'm still seeing the issue as well when I switch to the native file picker in 4.4.7 portable.

I'll put this back on my to-poke-at list.
