fix(antigravity): recover threads after a lost thinking signature - #28889
After Antigravity loses a Claude thinking signature, every later message in that native session can fail. T3 now marks that history as unusable and starts a fresh Antigravity session with the thread's context on the next message. The broken-history marker survives sign-out, provider switches, queued messages, and Stop during the outcome check. Recovery also respects /clear, so it does not restore deliberately cleared conversation history.
Evidence
Head 9b3f640a1b284d5e77210024516c74cefd93d41b integrates main a09aef3287d29f74e2270fae05ab0cef8202cfa1. Current-head test results are in the verification comment. Independent source review found no remaining findings.
Real Antigravity/Claude thinking, steer, cold resume and recovery after server restart remain unverified. The isolated Google sign-in expired without a callback, and its provider profile still has no token. The recordings below use a fake ACP subprocess and are historical; they do not establish real-provider behavior or verify this head.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Unusable Antigravity sessions now recover on the next message through the existing fresh-session handoff path. Recovery preserves the thread and respects cleared-context boundaries, with no obvious material risk requiring human judgment.

Walkthrough
Antigravity prompt failures now include a reusable or broken thread disposition. The ACP adapter applies the disposition to thread status and failed terminal events, rejects resume attempts for threads in error status, and preserves error status during sign-out and run startup.
turnFailure now pairs failures with a thread disposition. Invalid saved thinking signatures produce a broken disposition; other provider failures produce a reusable disposition. Tests cover these outcomes and quoted signature-error text.
Apply disposition to turns and resumes packages/provider-acp/src/server/adapter.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/AcpAdapterV2.test.ts
The ACP adapter applies the disposition during turn finalization, emits it on failed terminal events, and rejects resume for threads in error status. Tests cover reusable failures, broken-thread state, and resume rejection.
Preserve error status in orchestration apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProviderTurnStartService.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProviderTurnStartService.test.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Orchestrator.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/testkit/ProviderSwitch.integration.test.ts
Sign-out and run startup preserve a provider thread's error status. Integration tests cover handoffs and queued PR updates that use a replacement native thread and include prior work.

Explanation
The title "fix(antigravity): recover threads after a lost thinking signature" matches the main change. The raw summary and objectives show the PR classifies the native signature error as broken history, persists the provider thread's error status, and routes the next message through a fresh-session handoff. The title is specific, follows conventional commit form, and names the provider and the failure mode. It does not cover the sign-out and status-preservation changes, which is acceptable because the title need not cover every detail.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description states the problem (Antigravity sessions fail after a Claude thinking signature is lost), the change (broken-history marker, fresh session handoff, persistence across sign-out, provider switches, queued messages, and Stop), and links the issue #28870 under 'Closes'. It includes a verification section with commit hashes, a linked verification comment, and an explicit list of what was not verified (live Antigravity/Claude runs, steering, cold resume, restart recovery). It also includes before/after recordings and the model/harness attribution the template requests. Gaps: the 'Scope and approval' section is not labeled as such; the 'Closes #28870' line does not explicitly describe the maintainer approval of direction and scope or include an approval comment link. The Problem and Change sections are not labeled with the template headings. The 'Change' explanation is brief on how the fix spans components (server, provider-acp adapter, and tests).
Resolution
Add the template headings (Problem, Change, Scope and approval, Verification). Under Scope and approval, link the triaged bug issue #28870 and the maintainer comment or discussion that approves direction and scope, or explain why the fix qualifies without prior approval. Under Change, state why the changes across the adapter, orchestration service, Orchestrator, and test kit are all required for this one fix. Keep the verification section, and add the conventional commit style title if not already set.

resumeThread fails with the string "The native session history is unusable.". The outer mapError wraps this string as cause in ProviderAdapterResumeThreadError. A string has no tag or structured attributes. Callers and logs cannot distinguish this case from other resume failures without matching on text. The same file uses ProviderAdapter.ProviderAdapterProtocolError with a detail field for protocol-level refusals.

Gate the "Subagent work" control on a server capability.
The control shows for every Antigravity subagent thread. It does not check whether the connected server implements orchestration.getNativeChildWork.
The repository guidelines say new features must work for remote environments and for the public app.t3.codes client. That client can connect to an older server that has an Antigravity provider but no such RPC. On that server, Subagent work opens a dialog that shows only an RPC error.
Other features use environment.capabilities.* flags for this case. Add a nativeChildWork capability:
Set it in apps/server/src/environment/ServerEnvironment.ts.
Add it to the capabilities contract.
Read it in ChatView.tsx and in apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadDetailScreen.tsx.
Hide the control when the flag is missing.
As per coding guidelines: "Remote ready ... we need to make sure new features are properly supported."

When Claude rejects Antigravity's saved history because a thinking block
lost its signature, every later prompt to that native session fails the
same way. The native error step is now read as a broken-thread failure:
the turn fails with INVALID_THINKING_SIGNATURE and threadDisposition
broken, which persists the provider thread as error. The ACP adapter
refuses to resume an error row, so the next turn takes the existing
resume-failure path into a fresh native session with a context handoff.
Quota and other API errors keep the native session.

blacksmith vp run check:changed passed format, lint, knip, affected package typechecks and scoped tests. a separate run passed all 160 cases across the desktop shell, acp adapter and provider-switch suites, including the exact previously failing desktop test. two independent read-only reviews approve this final head. resolved the two stale convention threads after verifying their existing replies and confirming those lines are unchanged from main.
live authenticated antigravity recovery remains unverified because this vm has no saved provider profile. existing fixture recordings and the pr-body limitation remain in effect.

Head 9b3f640a1b284d5e77210024516c74cefd93d41b integrates main a09aef3287d29f74e2270fae05ab0cef8202cfa1. Main's fresh-context work did not supersede automatic signature-error recovery. It exposed a recovery handoff that could restore history from before /clear; that handoff now starts at the latest started fresh-context boundary.
The existing provider-switch table gained one regression variant. Before the fix at 1a70c97884a38a053feb8ca6522c1acdaa97ad69, it failed because the replacement session received Prompt alpha, which had been cleared. After the fix, it receives Prompt beta, excludes the earlier prompts, and uses a new native session. All three variants pass. Independent Codex review of the boundary fix found no remaining findings; the final merge only added unrelated GitHub media changes.
On corex, vp run check:changed origin/main --concurrency 1 passed on this exact head and base:
Test Files 8 passed (8)
Tests 218 passed (218)
check:changed summary
pass format, lint, both knip checks, GraphQL
pass typecheck (14 packages)
pass test (8 files)
The earlier focused recovery/context suites passed all 133 tests. Current-head CI passes: 22 checks succeeded and 10 were skipped. Macroscope approved this exact head, and there are no unresolved inline review threads.
The original failed Test job in run 41738642524 timed out in the Windows shell kill test. Check failed because Test failed. Main's #30463 fixes the clock/spawn race and is included here. The redundant quoted-error row was removed; the retained cases cover distinct recovery paths.
Real Antigravity/Claude thinking, steer, cold resume and recovery after server restart remain unverified. The isolated Google sign-in ran for one hour and expired without a callback. Rechecked the isolated provider profile: no saved token. No real model turns ran. Corex and shiv had no authenticated ACP profile; macOS, iOS, POCO and Boat cannot supply the missing environment authentication. Historical fixture videos in the description do not establish live behavior. This PR is not ready pending that evidence.
…from before /clear
A fresh-context run sets a history boundary, but the resume-fallback recovery summary
still covered every earlier run. A post-/clear broken native session could therefore
hand pre-clear history to its replacement. The recovery handoff now starts at the
latest started fresh-context boundary, using the same contextBoundaryOrdinal helper
the orchestrator uses.

Live Verification of the INVALID_THINKING_SIGNATURE Failure on 0.1.8-nightly.20261105.4205
We encountered this exact failure live on an active thread after a provider switch into Antigravity with claude-sonnet-5-5-high:
Exact Reproduction:
Turn 1 ran Claude Sonnet under Antigravity with extended thinking.
Every subsequent turn failed on session/prompt immediately with:
{"type":"error","error":{"type":"invalid_request_error","message":"messages.1.content.0.thinking.signature: Field required"},"request_id":"req_vrtx_011CgjG6eZMhrxqjefwMjFBU"}
Inspection of the Antigravity conversation database (<session>.db) confirmed the root cause:
The steps table (step_type = 15) retained field 20.3 (thinking) in step_payload, but field 20.14 (thinking_signature) was completely absent/stripped upon session/resume.
When Antigravity reloaded the session history, it passed the thinking block back to Vertex AI without the required HMAC signature.
Recovery Verification:
In SQLite, stripping field 20.3 from historical steps in step_payload allowed session/resume to immediately succeed with Vertex AI (no thinking block sent -> no signature demanded).
This live empirical test confirms both the underlying protobuf serialization issue in agy_acp_server.par and validates that the adapter-level session rotation in #28889 correctly recovers the thread.
