fix(server): analytics record the thread binding a scheduled task actually got - #28761
The mcp.tool.invoked analytics event for schedule_task reports bindToCurrentThread: true whenever the agent leaves that argument out. The server does not work that way. With the argument omitted, a new task binds only when the caller is a thread in the same project, and an update keeps the task's existing binding. So unbound tasks were counted as bound. Rejected and failed calls also reported true, even though nothing was saved.
Change
handoffSettings now reads the binding from the saved task the tool returns (boundThreadId set or null), for both create and update. A failed call, or one with no result, records no binding instead of a guessed one. Only a boolean is recorded. The thread id never reaches analytics. Scheduling behavior is unchanged; only the telemetry helper changed.
Scope and approval
This is a small, focused fix for an obvious bug in an existing metric, which fits the obvious-bug exception in CONTRIBUTING. It adds no feature and no new field. It corrects the value of the bindToCurrentThread setting that #15913 introduced.
Verification
Added a case to apps/server/src/telemetry/ProviderDimensions.test.ts. It failed on main (an omitted argument with an unbound result recorded true) and passes with the fix.
vp run check:changed passed: format, lint, knip, typecheck and the tests beside the change.
Runtime transcript calling handoffSettings("schedule_task", args, result) from main (before) and this branch (after) with the result shapes the server returns:
No screen shows this value. It only goes into analytics event properties, so there is nothing to screenshot.
Not checked: an end-to-end MCP call through a running server with analytics capture enabled. The transcript calls the helper directly with the documented result shapes.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Scheduled-task analytics now report the binding actually saved, omitting the field when no binding result is available. Scheduling behavior is unchanged, and only a boolean—not the thread ID—reaches analytics.

The schedule_task telemetry setting now uses the saved result’s boundThreadId instead of the tool input. Tests cover a null binding and an orchestrator failure.

The setting is false when the saved boundThreadId is null and true when it is a string. Other values produce no setting. Tests cover a null binding and an orchestrator failure.

Cover the bound scheduled-task case in the telemetry test.
The new test checks only a null boundThreadId and a failed result. No case passes a string boundThreadId on a successful schedule_task result. The implementation maps a string value to bindToCurrentThread: true. A regression that returns false for bound tasks, or omits the setting for them, would still pass this test. Add the bound case to the same it block.
