Problem

Mobile section navigation uses the same full-width segmented tracks as value pickers, making PR and Usage tabs visually heavy and hard to distinguish from form controls.

Change

  • Add shared text tabs with a sliding glass selection pill, reduced-motion support, and a solid fallback when native glass is unavailable.
  • Use them for PR Overview / Guide / Activity, Usage Cost / Tokens / Limits, and the component catalog. Tab labels have no count badges.
  • Retain segmented controls for value selection and adjust their selected colors for light and dark themes, preserving the existing secondary selection color on dark cards.

Scope and approval

This implements the requested mobile tab-selector redesign. The scope is mobile section navigation and value-picker colors. No prior upstream maintainer-approval link is attached.

Verification

  • vp run check:changed passed formatting, lint, both knip passes, and affected mobile/scripts typechecks after removing the tab counts. git diff --check passed.
  • Captured the actual baseline UI at 886d8f6 and the count-free redesign at ae2d9a4 on the same iPhone Duo simulator running iOS 27.1, using Iris in both light and dark appearances. Exercised PR tabs, Usage tabs and time ranges, and review-verdict selection. No review or generated guide was submitted.
  • Screenshots and recordings are cropped to the controls at the same scale. Review-picker screenshots are still frames from the native recordings after the theme settled. Colors were not enhanced or recolored; personal usage totals are excluded.
  • Android, older-iOS fallbacks, and scheduled-task/component-catalog flows were not verified in this capture pass. iOS snooze uses a separate native picker and is unaffected.

Dark card variants retain their existing secondary selection color. Verified this for T3 Chat, Grove, Ocean, Ember, and Iris; native Iris dark captures show the restored selection. vp run check:changed passed after the fix.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at 97e9791

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Mobile section navigation gains a sliding glass pill, while segmented controls receive updated selection colors. Existing selections and actions remain unchanged, with capability-based glass fallback and reduced-motion support limiting presentation risk.

Walkthrough

Adds a reusable mobile Tabs component with an animated selection indicator. The component catalog, pull request route, and usage route use it in place of segmented controls. It supports reduced-motion settings and uses liquid glass when available.

Changes: Mobile Tabs

Layer / File(s) Summary
Tabs component and appearance
apps/mobile/src/components/ui/Tabs.tsx, apps/mobile/src/components/ui/segmentedControlColors.ts
Adds a generic Tabs component with labeled options, selection callbacks, and an animated indicator. The indicator uses liquid glass when supported and a grouped-card background otherwise. The selected-color default changes to --color-card; the dark-mode accent blend alpha changes to 0.2.
Screen navigation adoption
apps/mobile/src/features/development/ComponentCatalogScreen.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/PullRequestRouteScreen.tsx, apps/mobile/src/features/usage/UsageRouteScreen.tsx
Replaces segmented controls with Tabs for catalog sections, pull request sections, and usage views. In the usage wide layout, the window-range control remains hidden for Limits, and the empty spacer is removed.

Explanation

The description covers the problem, implementation, scope, verification results, screenshots, recordings, and unverified platforms. However, the required Scope and approval section does not provide a triaged issue or explicit maintainer-approval link, and this feature change does not clearly qualify for the small obvious-fix exemption.

Resolution

Add a link to the triaged issue or maintainer discussion with an explicit approval comment. If no approval was required, explain why this redesign qualifies for an applicable exemption.

Include the shared Tabs component independently so this PR can land without pingdotgg#26679. Preserve Overview, Guide and Code in both section selectors.

closing at @StiensWout's request under Establish the problem and scope first.

Replaces existing default mobile PR/Usage navigation controls with animated glass-pill text tabs and changes value-picker selected colors. This is an intentional product-design change, not a bug repair or an opt-in configuration of the old controls. The full PR contains no maintainer approval; the author separately confirms no upstream approval or triaged-issue link exists.

submission evidence: "No prior upstream maintainer-approval link is attached."

Discuss and obtain explicit maintainer approval for the mobile navigation/control redesign and color scope, then link that approval.

thanks for trying to help improve t3 code. if you think this closure was a mistake, please open a fresh pr addressing the requirement above, and link back to this one.
