Verification blocked, R1: the historical live recording needs a contemporaneous checkout/build receipt, or a live Sharing-account reproduction on this head. Nathan's original report does not identify his checkout.
Codex can report an exhausted ChatGPT Subscription Sharing allowance as a stream error. T3 then marks the thread Failed and omits usage-limit recovery. This recognizes the reported prose and personal/Business sharing codes, marks the thread Limited, and shows one recovery card aligned with the composer.
The redundant settings description and floating duplicate are removed. Manage usage stays as a quiet secondary action because it opens allowance and credit settings when there is no reset time. Business limits keep Copy request for admin. Sharing resets stay separate from ordinary Codex windows, including when an exhausted ordinary snapshot arrives later. The scheduler and wire contract are unchanged.
Unverified: live Subscription Sharing exhaustion and reset recovery on final head 7b6d41d9e97527d444851bd89970d7958a90535c. Nathan's historical live recording has no verified checkout/build SHA, so it cannot establish that he tested 81584d6348673d075951a41438884ad8dbb2bf15 or this final head.
All new recordings below use exact head 7b6d41d9e97527d444851bd89970d7958a90535c, packaged Linux Electron 0.1.5 on physical corex, native Codex CLI 0.166.0, an isolated X11 display and private app/provider homes. The AppImage includes its own server and web client. No application database, Codex protocol events or UI state were injected. The recordings show Settings, prompt submission and the resulting thread/composer state.
This head also includes main's first-reply refresh fix, 8d012a6. The new recordings check that the activity and recovery card appear without reloading. The app is restarted when switching between the live work route and the HTTP fixture, so each route uses a fresh native Codex subprocess.
Real work account, no stub. At 2026-10-30 17:05:31 UTC, mcli reported codex-vm unavailable with 0% weekly allowance and the real account error below. The personal account remained available with 18% weekly allowance. These readings do not measure Subscription Sharing allowance.

I pinned the isolated native Codex client to the existing live codex-vm mcli route, selected GPT-6-Luna and sent "Live work quota verification." Native HTTP transport and zero retries avoid waiting on the exhausted account's Retry-After window. The unmodified live route returned HTTP 429. Native Codex emitted responseTooManyFailedAttempts with httpStatusCode: 429; T3 marked the thread Limited and showed "Usage limit reached" with "Reset time unavailable; retry manually". The composer accepted a follow-up draft. This is ordinary Codex quota evidence, not a live Sharing-cap error.

Sharing-specific integration, HTTP response fixture. The actual request path is Electron composer → bundled T3 server → installed native Codex app-server → HTTP /v1/responses → native Codex error → T3 adapter → thread and recovery UI. Only the upstream HTTP endpoint is stubbed, using requires_openai_auth=false. It returns HTTP 400 with the reporter's Sharing prose and subscription_sharing_usage_limit_exceeded. HTTP 400 is a fixture choice, not a claim about the reporter's live HTTP status. This does not use the earlier controlled protocol peer.
The same reporter-style prompt produces Limited, the timeline's "Usage limit reached", and one compact "ChatGPT usage limit reached" card with a quiet Manage usage action. It keeps the reset unknown and the composer editable. The floating duplicate and "Review your usage settings in ChatGPT" description are gone.

Historical live Sharing recording, checkout unknown
NathanGlasby's report at 2026-10-26 20:03:53 UTC says his ChatGPT Subscription Sharing allowance was genuinely exhausted. He tested stable 0.1.2 and this branch's dev build on an M5 MacBook Air, macOS 27. I inspected both recordings. They are live account evidence, separate from our fixtures.
Before, stable 0.1.2 retries and shows the raw stream-disconnect error:
before.mp4
After, the branch's dev build shows ChatGPT usage limit reached, Manage usage and unknown-reset recovery:
after.mp4
The branch head at his report was 81584d6348673d075951a41438884ad8dbb2bf15. GitHub reviews at 07:52, 07:53 and 08:00 UTC on October 26 identify that head; the local branch reflog records it at 07:11:58. The next branch update was Maria's October 27 merge/reset correction, ending at 4a019a7787d4c72c8ce209a64a2c21fd2668743e. This reconstructs the branch head only. Nathan did not state or display his local SHA, and no checkout/build receipt has been found. The after recording's metadata says CleanShot X 5.0.1, created 2026-10-26 19:45:38 UTC; it contains no commit/build identifier. Its tested checkout remains unknown. It is historical live account evidence, not verified evidence for commit 81584d6 or the final head.
The exact visible live error is:
stream disconnected before completion: The ChatGPT user has reached their Subscription Sharing usage limit. Ask the user to try again after their usage limit resets or use an API key instead.
I previously executed the historical and e512ca0 classifiers on that exact string. Both returned subscription_sharing_usage_limit_exceeded, usageLimit: true and the same safe message. The old one-entry prose table became an inline check for the identical phrase. Both sharing codes remain usage limits. withCodexManagedFailure still replaces the native code/message and assigns usage_limit for sharing allowances. Both streamed errors and failed terminal turns use it.
The current merge leaves CodexManagedErrors.ts, ThreadErrorBanner.tsx and UsageLimitRecoveryBanner.tsx byte-for-byte identical to e512ca0. Maria's reset correction still keeps Sharing caps independent of exhausted ordinary Codex snapshots, before and after failure. The exact reporter-string regression and the adapter's retry/terminal Sharing cases pass in the current-head changed-file suite. The attached diff and blob IDs make this code continuity check reviewable. They do not identify the app in Nathan's recording or prove live Sharing recovery on the final head:
Reused interaction evidence
This e512ca0 web recording remains controlled-protocol-peer test evidence, not live account evidence. At about 5:47, ordinary Resume at reset becomes Cancel auto-resume; cancellation at 5:49 restores Resume at reset. The current merge has the identical UsageLimitRecoveryBanner.tsx blob, and the affected tests pass on the new head. Business copy is now also recorded on the current packaged build above.
runtime-raw.mp4
A separate earlier handler check stubbed only window.open at the external boundary. Manage usage requested https://chatgpt.com/#settings/Usage with _blank and noopener, noreferrer.
Build, checks and review
Current head 7b6d41d9e97527d444851bd89970d7958a90535c merges main 6fc9144a60c4a5f45089316ddd5f7371bafd3bf2 without rewriting Maria's history. The only textual conflict was in the adapter test helper: main's image hook remains argument five; the Sharing snapshot callback is argument six. An independent Codex review checked all 48 helper calls and the five production patches and found no issues.

At 2026-10-30 18:11 UTC, the available personal/automation T3 configurations on corex and its dev container had no saved ChatGPT Sharing credential. The work mcli account remained exhausted with an ordinary Codex usage_limit_reached error; the personal account remained available. Neither supplies a live Subscription Sharing failure. R1 remains open pending the external receipt or account evidence.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — ChatGPT sharing-limit failures now use the existing recovery banner with usage-settings or workspace-admin actions. Changes are limited to error handling and presentation, without changing allowances or enabling automatic retries.

Walkthrough
Codex managed-error classification now recognizes configured usage-limit codes and matching prose. The adapter preserves managed failure details and calculates reset times per failure. The web recovery banner uses the error code to select ChatGPT- or workspace-specific content and actions.
Classification parses structured errors and JSON strings, recognizes configured codes and exact usage-limit prose, and returns a usageLimit flag. Tests cover recognized and unrecognized inputs.
Adapter failure handling and validation apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CodexAdapterV2.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/CodexAdapterV2.test.ts
The adapter applies managed messages and codes to failures, marks managed usage limits, and calculates reset times per failure. Replay tests cover workspace and sharing limits, retry notifications, and reset snapshots.
ChatView passes the last error code to the recovery banner. The banner distinguishes ChatGPT and workspace limits and displays their corresponding recovery content. ThreadErrorBanner changes its usage-limit text.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Directly linked issue #25333 has one primary objective: recognize the Subscription Sharing usage-limit stream error as a usage limit and provide recovery instead of a generic disconnect.
Evidence at reviewed head:
CodexManagedErrors.ts: classifyCodexManagedError now detects the exact prose "has reached their Subscription Sharing usage limit" when no structured code exists. It maps it to subscription_sharing_usage_limit_exceeded and sets usageLimit: true. The reporter's string ("stream disconnected before completion: ...") contains that phrase, so it matches.
CodexManagedErrors.ts: structured codes subscription_sharing_usage_limit_exceeded and subscription_sharing_workplace_individual_usage_limit_exceeded are in usageLimitCodes.
CodexAdapterV2.ts: withCodexManagedFailure replaces the message and code and sets class to usage_limit for usage-limit codes. The thread then reaches the Limited state, not Failed.
UsageLimitRecoveryBanner.tsx: ChatGPT limit errors show a ChatGPT-specific banner with a Manage usage action. Workspace limits show a Copy request for admin action.
Reset time and resume (partial): The issue asks for a reset time and a resume-once-reset option. The Sharing error carries no reset timestamp. The reviewed code sets resetAt to null for Sharing caps (failureResetAt). The banner therefore shows "Reset time unavailable; retry manually" and no scheduled resume. This follows from the data available in the error. It is not a missed coding step, but it does not match the issue's expected behavior exactly.
Limits of this review: I did not run the test suite. The PR reports 175 passing tests and a changed-file check, and the new tests cover the reporter string, retry, and terminal Sharing cases. Live Sharing-cap behavior at the final head is unverified, as the PR states. Nathan's live recordings cover an earlier head, and the current code path matches those recordings.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changed files relate to usage-limit handling for the issue's Sharing failure path:
CodexManagedErrors.ts and its test: classify Sharing codes and prose, and set usageLimit.
CodexAdapterV2.ts and its test: apply the usage-limit class and failure reset time for Sharing failures.
ChatView.tsx: passes lastErrorCode to the usage-limit banner, which needs it to pick the ChatGPT or workspace presentation.
ThreadErrorBanner.tsx: exports copyAdminRequest so the recovery banner can reuse the existing admin-request copy action.
UsageLimitRecoveryBanner.tsx and its test: render the ChatGPT and workspace recovery variants.
The UI changes (ChatGPT icon and title, removed duplicate usage description, Manage usage as a secondary action) affect the same recovery surface. They support the issue's recovery goal. They are not unrelated work.
The classifier now parses only structured fields (code, error, message, additionalDetails) instead of searching serialized input text. This narrows detection of other managed codes. It is a change in the same classifier, and CodexManagedErrors.test.ts covers it. The narrowing is part of the Sharing recognition work, not a demonstrated unrelated change.
No unrelated files or features appear in the reviewed whole-PR file set. The PR description names head 1e7bd40, but the reviewed head is 7b6d41d. I assessed the reviewed head diffs against the merge base.

Thanks for picking this up! I tested this branch locally on my M5 MacBook Air (macOS 27) with ChatGPT Subscription Sharing, while my usage limit was actually exhausted.
Before (stable 0.1.2): sending a prompt showed the raw stream error.
before.mp4
After (this branch, dev build): it retried the provider 5 times (about 20s), then showed a "ChatGPT usage limit reached" card with a Manage usage button, plus a "Usage limit reached. Reset time unavailable, retry manually" banner. Works as expected for me.
updated the existing branch at 4a019a7787d4c72c8ce209a64a2c21fd2668743e, preserving your commits and merging current main. thanks @shivamhwp for the focused classifier fix and for preserving chatgpt's manage-usage/admin actions.
i removed the one-entry prose lookup table and kept sharing-cap resets independent of ordinary codex windows. personal and business caps now retain manual recovery when their own reset is unknown, including when an exhausted codex snapshot arrives later. no new test files or scheduler changes.
verification: the two reset regressions failed before the fix. blacksmith check:changed passes lint, affected typechecks, and 139 tests. all 32 ci checks are green. macroscope and two independent reviewers approved this head. coderabbit's latest review was service-limited; its earlier finding remains addressed.
the real web client was exercised through a synthetic codex subprocess for classification, manual retry, manage-usage popup, and the exact admin-request clipboard text. uploaded video playback and seeking passed. actual sharing-cap reset, native desktop/mobile, and remote/relay clients remain unverified. the pr body now reflects those limits and includes this evidence.
verification is partial. the sharing-limit fix remains unverified with this vm's account. no code changes or pushes were made.

drove the actual web client with the repo's playwright and /usr/bin/google-chrome. added the real git repository through the app and selected codex gpt-6.1-sol. no mocks, fixtures, replay provider, synthetic protocol peer, or database seeding.
main and the pr completed the same prompt, returning MAIN_CODEX_OK through the local responses proxy. these matching-prompt screenshots prove normal provider availability, not reproduction of the sharing-limit bug.
on the pr, a follow-up real provider turn executed pwd and git rev-parse --short HEAD, returned /home/user/t3code and 4a019a7787, then PROVIDER_TOOL_OK. reloading retained both replies and the tool results.
blacksmith ran the existing CodexManagedErrors.test.ts and CodexAdapterV2.test.ts: 2 files and 96 tests passed. the pr has 32 successful ci checks, 0 failing, 0 pending. these checks do not establish live sharing-cap recovery.
inspected the captures. the trimmed real-turn video plays to completion and seeks in t3's browser player.
main, normal codex turn:
pr, same prompt:
Not verified
the changed sharing-limit behavior could not be exercised. this vm uses a custom responses proxy without a chatgpt account. the original bug did not reproduce on main. the real codex app-server reports:
the app's usage panel independently shows the same unavailable usage state:
therefore personal and business sharing-cap exhaustion, manage-usage/admin actions for those errors, unknown-reset handling with early/late allowance snapshots, manual retry after a real cap reset, and ordinary exhausted-window recovery remain unverified through a real provider. proving them needs a genuinely sharing-limited chatgpt account. generating the error artificially would not satisfy this brief.
native desktop, ios/android, macos/windows, remote/relay, and tunnel behavior were not exercised on this linux vm. the verification status is unverifiable for the changed behavior, with the normal-turn/tool/persistence checks above passing.
media limitation: the screenshots render on github. github treats the external mp4 image syntax as an image and does not render an inline video; the uploaded mp4 itself passed full playback and seeking in t3's browser player.
Codex can report a ChatGPT sharing limit as prose only ("The ChatGPT user has
reached their Subscription Sharing usage limit"), which the managed error
classifier did not recognize. Even with a sharing code, the adapter replaced
the message and code but kept provider_error, so the Limited state, reset time
and resume-at-reset never applied.
The classifier now maps that exact prose to the personal sharing limit code and
flags the personal and Business sharing limits as usage limits. The Codex
adapter gives those the usage_limit class; other sharing failures keep theirs.
Reset times still come only from exhausted Codex windows.

ChatView hides the thread error banner for usage-limit failures in favor of the
recovery banner. Now that ChatGPT sharing limits are usage limits, that would
drop the ChatGPT banner and its "Manage usage" and "Copy request for admin"
actions. Keep it for those two codes; mobile already shows both.

The sharing limit showed a floating ChatGPT banner on top of the usage-limit
timeline line and recovery card. The recovery card now carries the ChatGPT
title, icon and Manage usage or admin-request action, and the floating banner
is suppressed like other usage limits.

It is historical live account evidence, not verified evidence for commit81584d6or the final head. The exact visible live error is:
I previously executed the historical and e512ca0 classifiers on that exact string. Both returned
subscription_sharing_usage_limit_exceeded,usageLimit: trueand the same safe message. The old one-entry prose table became an inline check for the identical phrase. Both sharing codes remain usage limits.withCodexManagedFailurestill replaces the native code/message and assignsusage_limitfor sharing allowances. Both streamed errors and failed terminal turns use it.The current merge leaves
CodexManagedErrors.ts,ThreadErrorBanner.tsxandUsageLimitRecoveryBanner.tsxbyte-for-byte identical to e512ca0. They do not identify the app in Nathan's recording or prove live Sharing recovery on the final head:Reused interaction evidence
This e512ca0 web recording remains controlled-protocol-peer test evidence, not live account evidence. At about 5:47, ordinary Resume at reset becomes Cancel auto-resume; cancellation at 5:49 restores Resume at reset. The current merge has the identical
UsageLimitRecoveryBanner.tsxblob, and the affected tests pass on the new head. Business copy is now also recorded on the current packaged build above.runtime-raw.mp4

The only textual conflict was in the adapter test helper: main's image hook remains argument five; the Sharing snapshot callback is argument six. An independent Codex review checked all 48 helper calls and the five production patches and found no issues.j_kuyig7znzjxlwncjqrvu, stagecheck-sharing-final, default machine, attempt 1, workerbx_n7tnrhxh, exit 0. At 2026-10-30 18:11 UTC, the available personal/automation T3 configurations on corex and its dev container had no saved ChatGPT Sharing credential. The work mcli account remained exhausted with an ordinary Codex
usage_limit_reachederror; the personal account remained available. Neither supplies a live Subscription Sharing failure. R1 remains open pending the external receipt or account evidence.
