fix(web, mobile): new replies show overwritten local images - #23213

Conversation
An agent can overwrite a local image at the same path and embed it in a new reply. The new reply reused the cached signed URL from the earlier reply, so the browser showed the previous bytes until a reload. Key each reply's media-file URL by a client-only cache revision (the reply's message id). It is stripped before the RPC, so a new reply mints its own URL while the existing atom TTL bounds the cache. Fixes #15676 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Videos keep their existing URL caching; only image embeds get the per-reply revision, matching mobile and the expanded video dialog. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a contained web/mobile bug fix that gives each assistant reply its own client-side media URL cache revision while preserving the existing server asset contract and default callers. The accompanying fixture files are development-only reproduction tooling, with no product-default, schema, security, or deployment changes. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. - Around line 44-45: Update the backup handling around `c.backup` to preserve
the original pre-seed projection backup when the same database is seeded again.
Reuse the existing backup if present, or create a uniquely named backup for each
seed, rather than overwriting the first recovery copy.
- Line 22: Update the font selection in the fixture-generation flow so callers
can provide a font path and, when the Liberation Sans path is unavailable, fall
back to an available Pillow font instead of raising. Keep image generation
working for --images-only and projection seeding without requiring that fixed
system font.

Fixed both verified fixture-helper findings in f7082ecebb: preserve the first pre-seed backup and add optional font selection with a Pillow fallback. Focused disposable-state checks confirmed repeated backup preservation, default/explicit/fallback font rendering, and a clear invalid-font error. Product rendering code is unchanged. |
Problem
An agent overwrites a local image, embeds the same path in a later reply, and the new reply displays the previous bytes until reload. Reproduced on Linux in the real web app with Claude: the PNG on disk was green while the new reply still rendered red.
Change
Key local image asset URLs by assistant message ID in web and mobile, so a new reply requests a fresh URL while chunks of the same reply share one entry. Strip the client-only revision before asset RPC calls. Existing callers without a revision keep their behavior. This does not snapshot image history or refresh an image overwritten within one message.
Include the synthetic PNG/SVG fixture data and stopped-server projection seed helper required to rebuild the evidence. No server contract or persisted app data changes.

Static boards and whole-surface comparisons
Static fixture comparisons
Board 0 shows upper PNG/inline/file-URL/tall fixtures; boards 1–4 overlap the lower SVG/fragment/missing/blocked/linked/direct-data section. Repeated lower boards are not additional independent cases. Narrow boards match exactly; wide boards differ by 0 or 17 pixels consistent with composer caret. This establishes visual parity of captured fixtures, not correctness of every URL/fragment branch. Authored-size and spaced/encoded supplemental fixture data exists but has no captured board.
Other initial/expanded pairs and all metadata are linked in the artifact catalog below. Expanded overwrite images differ intentionally (base blue/head yellow); static gallery boards use yellow source bytes on both builds.
Recordings: steps and times
Times below are recovered marks in seconds from recording start; encoded duration is measured from the actual MP4. Marks are approximate and can diverge from encoded time after transport stalls/static-frame handling. Raw recordings are untrimmed. The overwrite happens through the fixture command outside the browser, so a colored transition alone does not document disk bytes; the script, metadata, reply labels and endpoint samples support that sequence.

Supplement after merge and fixture commit
The primary agent independently reported a real-app no-reload check at e76c41919d on a 1280×800 browser: four loaded yellow images stayed yellow after same-path overwrite to RGB(208,0,208); a new Claude reply rendered magenta. The prompt itself also embeds magenta, so six elements represent four old replies, a user prompt and a new assistant reply. This is a supplemental still/pixel transcript, not paired-base evidence or a recording and separate from the paired recordings.
