pingdotgg#22156 redacted data: URLs in downloads, navigation failures, network entries, snapshots, and console text, but the tab's own page URL still went out raw in the Success report, preview_status.url, and preview_status.tabs[].url. It was safe only because nothing can put a tab's top frame on a data: page today. Redact those three too, so the report path holds even if the http(s) allowlist or Chromium's top-frame block changes, and drop the allowlist comment that warned about this. ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This focused fix redacts data URL contents from preview status and snapshot outputs, with targeted regression coverage. Because it changes a sensitive-data exposure boundary in production browser-preview code, human review is warranted. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |
preview_snapshot returned location.href as-is, so a tab on a data: page still handed the agent the page's contents through the snapshot URL. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Sanitize reported URLs apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowser.ts, apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowser.test.ts, packages/shared/src/preview.ts |
Successful navigation reports and active and sibling tab status responses use payload-free URLs. A test verifies that serialized output excludes embedded content. The URL validation code is unchanged. |
Sanitize page snapshots apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowserPage.ts, apps/server/src/preview/ServerBrowserPage.test.ts |
Page snapshots sanitize page.url with withoutDataPayload. The test verifies that the media type remains and the payload is replaced with an ellipsis. |

Resolves conflicts in ServerBrowserPage.ts (keeps the snapshot URL redaction next to main's shortened comment) and ServerBrowserPage.test.ts (keeps the data: snapshot URL test, drops the console test main removed). The status regression test now reads a sibling tab's status, so the tabs[] mapping for another tab showing a data: page is covered. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

#22156 stopped
data:URLs from leaking a file's contents through downloads, navigation failures, network entries, snapshot link targets, and console text. One thing was left: the tab's own page URL. It still went out raw in four places:reportLoaded), which goes to preview clients and fills the URL barpreview_status.urlpreview_status.tabs[].urlpreview_snapshot'surl(location.href)A desktop tab can land on a
data:page from the page itself:window.open("data:…")goes through the desktop's window-open handler, which loads non-http(s) URLs in the same tab withwc.loadURL(apps/desktop/src/preview/Manager.ts). The agent then gets the page's contents back as its URL. Web and server-rendered tabs don't hit this, because Chromium blocks a page from opening or navigating todata:there. This PR runs all four through the same
withoutDataPayloadhelper, so adata:page shows asdata:text/html,…. It also removes the comment #22156 put on the http(s) allowlist warning that page URLs were unredacted, since they no longer are.Trade-off: when a desktop-rendered tab's webview crashes, it remounts at the last Success URL. A tab that crashed on a
data:page would now come back asdata:text/html,…instead of its content. #22156 made the same trade for LoadFailed URLs; keeping a private real URL just for this would need a new channel.Earlier app evidence
