Problem

Some bot comments in a pull request's Activity timeline write their links as raw HTML. On mobile you can't tap those links, though GitHub opens them. Cloudflare Workers deploy previews are one example: their Commit Preview URL and Branch Preview URL are <a href='…'> tags inside a Markdown table.

Cause: before the native Markdown view renders, mobile converts a comment's HTML to Markdown in markdownWithHtml. That step kept <img>, <br>, <details> and <summary>, but deleted <a> tags along with their href, leaving only the link text. A <br> inside a table cell also became a hard line break, which ended the table row early.

Change

All changes are in apps/mobile/src/lib/markdownDocument.ts:

  • <a href> becomes a Markdown link. Inline HTML arrives one tag per node, so opening and closing tags are paired across sibling nodes in the same paragraph or cell.
  • <a><img></a> becomes a linked image.
  • <br> inside a table cell becomes a space, so the row stays intact.
  • A | in a link's URL is percent-encoded, so it can't split a table cell.

Link labels stay valid Markdown. A ! before an anchor is escaped, so the link doesn't turn into an image. Brackets and a trailing backslash in the label are escaped, while code spans in it are left alone. Block tags such as <p> inside an anchor don't add blank lines.

Safety: an anchor becomes a link only when its href uses http(s) or mailto. Any other scheme, such as javascript:, keeps its text with no link. Code spans and fences inside HTML blocks keep their literal tags, as before.

Chat messages use the same component, so they get the fix too. Web isn't affected: its pipeline (packages/shared/src/markdownPipeline.ts) keeps anchors through rehype-raw and rehype-sanitize.

Scope and approval

There's no prior issue for this. It's a small, focused fix for an obvious bug: links that GitHub renders do nothing on mobile. It's JS only, touches one conversion function and its tests, and adds no new UI or settings.

Verification

  • vp test run apps/mobile/src/lib/: 421 tests pass. markdownHtml.test.ts covers a linked image, anchors split by a <br> inside a table cell staying one row of links, a | in an anchor URL staying inside its cell, and a javascript: anchor keeping only its text.
  • Mobile typecheck (tsc-rs --noEmit) and lint on the touched files pass.
  • On the iOS simulator (iPhone 18 Pro, iOS 27.0), I opened the Activity tab of flamboh/tagium#267 with bot comments shown, on main and on this branch.

The Cloudflare Workers comment, scrolled to the start of its table:

Before (main) After
Before: View logs drops to its own row and 'Branch Preview URL, Oct 17 2026' spills out of the table as plain text After: the status row stays on one line with a blue View logs link

The same table scrolled to the Preview URL column:

Before (main) After
Before: Commit Preview URL is plain white text After: Commit Preview URL and Branch Preview URL are blue links

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This fixes non-clickable HTML links by substantially expanding the mobile HTML-to-Markdown conversion logic, including anchor pairing, escaping, and table handling. Because the stateful parser changes affect multiple existing mobile Markdown consumers, the scope is broader than a simple local fix.

📝 Walkthrough

The Markdown conversion now processes HTML anchors through AST-aware traversal. It supports valid HTTP(S) and mailto links, preserves unsupported anchors as text, handles linked images and code regions, and adapts line breaks in table cells. Tests cover these cases.

Changes: HTML to Markdown Conversion

Layer / File(s) Summary
HTML tag conversion
apps/mobile/src/lib/markdownDocument.ts
The conversion supports HTTP(S) and mailto anchors. It escapes destinations and link labels, protects image syntax, excludes code regions, handles table-cell <br> elements, and coordinates anchors across inline HTML nodes.
AST traversal and regression coverage
apps/mobile/src/lib/markdownDocument.ts, apps/mobile/src/lib/markdownHtml.test.ts
AST traversal propagates anchor and table-cell context. Tests cover linked images, headings, tables, unsafe or unclosed anchors, mailto links, bracketed labels, inline code, punctuation, and anchors spanning block content.

Review details

Systems and components

  • observed — apps/mobile (service) was modified; 2 changed files map to changed impact.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in apps/mobile/src/lib/markdownDocument.ts: Added Markdown destination escaping, anchor-state tracking, link-label escaping, image-link disambiguation, ordered anchor pairing for supported URL schemes, and HTML-tag filtering that excludes tags inside code ranges.
  • observed — Modified behavior in apps/mobile/src/lib/markdownDocument.ts: Replaced the old whole-content HTML substitution with context-aware tag conversion. HTML anchors become Markdown links when paired with supported destinations; images, summaries, block elements, and line breaks receive context-sensitive replacements, including single-line breaks in table cells.
  • observed — Modified behavior in apps/mobile/src/lib/markdownDocument.ts: Updated AST traversal to propagate table-cell and link context, share anchor state across inline HTML siblings, escape text inside generated links, avoid image interpretation for inserted links, and produce targeted edits instead of replacing every HTML node independently.
  • observed — Modified behavior in apps/mobile/src/lib/markdownHtml.test.ts: Updated the expected output for an HTML anchor containing an image to include the surrounding Markdown link.

The description includes Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections. It explains the bug, implementation, safety behavior, testing, manual validation, screenshots, and agent details. It does not explicitly state that link tapping was not tested, and the reported test count differs from the PR objectives, but the description is otherwise complete and relevant.

* feat(relay): deploy on-demand preview stages for labeled PRs

Labeled same-repo PRs deploy stage pr-<n> behind the relay-preview environment reviewer gate. Unlabel or close tears the stage down, and a nightly job retries failed teardowns. Runtime-created managed endpoint tunnels and CNAMEs are swept by a PreviewTunnelSweep resource.

Known gaps, tracked as follow-ups: an interrupted preview deploy can leave runtime tunnels behind; repo-level relay secrets still bypass the environment gate until moved.
