Users with large, older databases have no way to learn that t3 doctor (#19436) can shrink them.

The new server.getDatabaseStorage subscription reports database size, reclaimable bytes, whether incremental auto-vacuum is on, and the exact command to run. It republishes after each compaction or reclaim pass, and only when the status changed. When an unconverted database has at least 1 GiB to reclaim:

  • Web and desktop: Settings › Storage shows a dismissible notice with a Copy command button.
  • Mobile: Settings › Maintenance shows the same notice.

The command targets that environment's data directory. It uses the desktop CLI launcher when t3 isn't on PATH, and PowerShell quoting on Windows. A dev server using a separate dev database shows no notice, so the command can never target the live install.

Evidence

Captured against a copy of real data in a worktree sandbox, with 1.2–2.7 GiB of freed pages and auto-vacuum off.

Web: Settings › Storage, before t3 doctor After t3 doctor (fresh browser, nothing dismissed)
Storage settings showing the Reclaim 2.7 GiB notice with Copy command and Dismiss Storage settings with no Database section after doctor

t3 doctor --fix on that copy: Done: 3.61 GiB -> 887.6 MiB, 0 superseded events removed.

Mobile (Android): Settings › Maintenance After Dismiss
Maintenance screen showing the Reclaim 1.2 GiB notice Maintenance screen with the notice dismissed

Takes over #19249.

📝 Walkthrough

The server now streams database size, reclaimable space, incremental-vacuum status, and a host compaction command. Web and mobile settings display notices for supported environments when compaction is recommended. The notices support copying the command and dismissing the notice.

Changes: Database Storage Notices

Layer / File(s) Summary
Storage status and RPC contract
packages/contracts/src/settings.ts, packages/contracts/src/rpc.ts, packages/contracts/src/environment.ts, apps/server/src/environment/ServerEnvironment.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/rpc/client.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/state/server.ts
The contracts define database storage status and the 1 GiB recommendation threshold. The RPC streams nullable status values. The environment capability and client subscription support are added.

The server inspects the configured userdata database and publishes status changes through the RPC. Host command resolution quotes arguments for the host shell. RPC authorization, instrumentation, and related tests are updated.
Settings notices and dismissal

Web and mobile settings show notices for supported environments outside project scope. The notices provide copy and dismissal actions. Mobile preferences retain dismissed environment IDs after filtering invalid entries.

Compose the settings notice with ComposerBanner slots.

The settings section is not an exception to the web UI composition rule. Keep SettingsSection as the settings container, but render the notice content and actions with ComposerBanner slots instead of SettingsGroup and SettingsRow. This is a composition refactor, not a major behavioral defect.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR introduces a new cross-platform database-storage reporting and maintenance-notice workflow, including a new authenticated RPC and periodic server-side inspection. It also enables the capability by default and changes authorization code, so the runtime and access-control implications warrant human review.

The server now streams its database size, free pages, and auto_vacuum
mode over `server.getDatabaseStorage`, republished after each
maintenance pass. Settings > Storage (web) and Settings > Maintenance
(mobile) show a dismissible notice with the exact `t3 doctor --base-dir`
command when a legacy-mode database holds at least 1 GiB of freed pages;
the threshold lives next to the contract as
shouldRecommendDatabaseCompaction. Environments without the
`databaseStorage` capability show nothing.

PowerShell also ends a double-quoted string at typographic quotes, so a
base dir containing one broke the copied command. Also cover the published
storage status, including the dev-path guard.

- The first native task-editor drive exposed five persistence-only

projects only declared editor and webhook fields. Its exact-key

83 tests / 327 assertions; these regressions are included in final
affected checks.

The final directory guard `1b69d667df` keys the draft occurrence by
scope, mixed state and saved path, matching pinned upstream’s input
identity. An actual Contract/Runner probe importing the product
StoragePanel reproduced stale display after switching machines, Reset,
value replacement and mixed-state changes; an edit then targeted machine
B with machine A’s stale path. The repaired source passes nine runtime
assertions, including scope-only changes with matching paths and
preserving an unsaved edit during an unrelated busy update. The
coordinator independently reviewed the two-line patch and reran the
probe with no findings. This guard is source-qualified after the frozen
native `64876e527` proof; the final combined native bake will cover it.

The webhook drive used authored ArrowDown/Enter input for
Actions/Edit/Deliveries and native taps/text elsewhere. A preceding
pointer tap left the popup closed; pointer-menu acceptance is not
claimed. Rotation was cancelled, so URL replacement was not exercised in
this drive. Relative-age labels reflect the agent's virtual epoch versus
fixture timestamps and were not asserted. The native source qualifiers
above are retained after integration; the incoming app tasks were not
rebaked in this lane.

The isolated fixture uses port16771 and its own home under ignored
target/. Its provider is the local ACP stand-in; no real provider
account is used. Evidence files are attached through GitHub and are
never committed.

Prepared with Codex; continues work begun in the prior Claude session.
