Problem

You can settle a thread from the sidebar or with ⌘⇧S, but the command palette (⌘K) has no matching action. Searching "settle" there returns only Settings rows.

Change

  • The palette shows Settle thread for the active thread, or Un-settle thread when it is already settled, with the thread.settle shortcut hint. It calls the same settleThread / unsettleThread from useThreadActions as the sidebar, so undo and pin/snooze restoration behave the same.
  • The item is hidden when there is no active thread, when the environment lacks the threadSettlement capability, or when the session lacks orchestration:operate. Failures show the palette's existing error toast.
  • ChatView ignores shortcuts while the palette is open, so the palette's keydown handler now runs the settle item on thread.settle, the same way it already handles thread.copyReference and chat.find. It looks the item up in the full action list, so the shortcut also works when the query has filtered the row out.

Scope and approval

There is no prior issue or discussion. This is a small fix for a missing entry point, not a new behavior: settling and un-settling already exist and keep their current behavior. The PR only makes them reachable from the palette, which AGENTS.md lists as an expected entry point next to keybindings. It touches one web file. Mobile has no command palette.

Verification

Tested on web (Chrome, Browser panel) against a local dev server (vp run dev) seeded with a copy of real threads.

Before (main) After
before after

After settling, the same search offers the reverse action:

un-settle

Recording (palette-settle-flow.mp4):

  1. ⌘K, type "settle", Enter: the thread settles, "Settled just now · Un-settle" shows above the composer, and the sidebar's Settled count goes to 1.
  2. ⌘K, type "settle": the row reads Un-settle thread. Pressing ⌘⇧S with the palette open un-settles the thread.
  3. Settle again from the palette, then ⌘Z (focus off the composer): undo returns the thread to active.

Checks: vp test run apps/web/src/components/CommandPalette.logic.test.ts (33 passed), vp lint on the file (no new warnings), and tsc reports no errors in CommandPalette.tsx.

Not checked: desktop (Electron) and remote/relay connections. The change is client-only and uses the same RPC commands as the sidebar. I added no new tests because the item only wires existing settle/unsettle actions into the palette, and the gating reads existing capability and scope helpers.

The PR says screenshots will follow, but currently has no verification results. Please add before/after palette screenshots and a short recording showing Settle, Un-settle and Undo, with the client/environment and observed results, as required by the verification guide. Keep this in draft until that evidence is attached, then mark it ready for review.

Approvability

Verdict: Not approved

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This adds a production command-palette action that performs thread settlement or re-opening, including existing undo and organization side effects. The action is appropriately capability- and permission-gated, but the new palette wiring and visibility behavior have no accompanying tests.

Walkthrough

The command palette offers a settle or un-settle action for the active thread when its environment grants orchestration-operation scope and thread settlement is supported. The thread.settle shortcut runs the matching action, even when filtering hides it.

Changes: Thread settlement

Layer / File(s) Summary
Add active-thread settlement action
apps/web/src/components/CommandPalette.tsx
The palette checks the active thread’s environment scope and settlement capability, then offers the action that matches its settled state. The thread.settle shortcut runs the matching action even when filtering hides it. Non-interruption failures use command error handling.

Priority: Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Change: Feature

Suggested reviewers: maria-rcks, noojuno

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to c9e57

No actionable issue remains in the command-palette settlement change; it is ready to merge after normal checks.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to c9e57

The new action preserves the existing environment permission and capability checks and reuses the established settlement operations. No introduced security concern was established. Some downstream failure-recovery and concurrent-request guarantees remain unverified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The added UI reachability is bounded to the selected server thread in its environment. Query text does not supply a mutation target, and the shortcut does not create an action when permission or capability eligibility is absent.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Palette visibility is not the only client-side control. The shared orchestration command wrapper reads the target environment’s scope again before execution, and settle/un-settle independently reject unsupported environments. These checks predate the new caller; server-side enforcement was not independently verified in this pass.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Undo ownership is shared across hook instances and keyed by action kind plus scoped thread key. Stale claims are excluded, and undo consumes current claims before awaiting restoration, preventing repeated activation from restoring the same undo group twice. The palette reuses this existing mechanism.

Added the verification to the description: before/after palette screenshots and a recording of Settle, Un-settle (including ⌘⇧S while the palette is open) and Undo, on web against a local dev server, with the observed results. Also rebased on main and fixed the palette shortcut CodeRabbit flagged. Marking ready for review.

Verified in a real dev environment

verified as-is at a7f789aa83fa55626eb55f57ee704d436855a4ca on this linux boat vm, using repo playwright and /usr/bin/google-chrome at 1440×1000. no source changes or pushes.

  • reproduced on fresh github/main (15fe283272) in a separate worktree: after a real codex gpt-6.1-sol turn, searching “settle” in the palette offered settings only.
  • installed and ran the exact pr head with vp i and a background vp run dev. stopped main before starting the pr. both used isolated, unseeded state. created the project through the app, pointing at a real local git repo, and sent the same prompt through codex gpt-6.1-sol. no mocks, fixtures, replay provider, or copied thread data.
  • selecting “settle thread” by click or enter settles the current thread; the composer shows “settled just now” and the settled count becomes 1. reopening the palette offers “un-settle thread”.
  • with an unmatched query hiding the action, ctrl+shift+s still un-settles the thread and closes the palette.
  • settling again and pressing ctrl+z with focus outside the composer restores the active thread. sidebar settlement and the composer’s un-settle action also work. settlement persists after direct reopening and reload; the palette can un-settle that persisted thread.
  • the reopened thread completed another real codex turn, returning “reopened thread still works.” the action is absent on an unsent new thread.

focused check through blacksmith: vp test run apps/web/src/components/CommandPalette.logic.test.ts, 29 passed. github currently reports 21 successful and 7 skipped checks, no failures or pending checks. check:changed was not run because no fix was needed and no files changed.

before, same project and initial prompt on main:

main: settle search has settings only

after, the same scenario on the pr:

pr: settle thread action and shortcut

pr: reverse un-settle action

13-second recording: settle, reverse action, filtered-query shortcut, settle again, and undo. startup frames trimmed; captures inspected and uploaded playback checked.

palette settle, filtered shortcut, and undo

Not verified

native desktop/electron, macos/windows, ios/android, remote/relay/tunnel and multi-environment connections, restricted-scope sessions, environments without settlement support, RPC failure toasts, and automatic settlement triggered by inactivity or a merged external pr. these were not exercised by this local linux web scenario. this is runtime verification, not a claim of merge readiness.
