Usage groups spend by harness, so one vendor's models are split across Claude Code, Codex, Pi and the rest. A Group by switch (Harness / Model, keys H and M) re-keys the per-row list, the period chart and the Breakdown day/hour table by the vendor that made the model. Totals, the cost and token mixes and Breakdown -> Model are the same in both views. - usageModelFamily derives the family from the model id: a vendor path segment first (openai/, moonshotai/, ...), then a family token on whole words (claude, gpt, gemini, kimi, ...), else Other / unknown. It runs on the model id after the server applies model aliases. - mergeUsage additionally returns per-family totals and per-period byFamily maps; the existing provider fields are unchanged. - Family rows count requests, not sessions: a session can use models from several vendors. - The choice persists with the other Usage page preferences.

ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This is a substantial cross-cutting Usage feature that adds model-family aggregation, new UI modes, persistence, and default keyboard commands across shared, web, and mobile code. It also changes the shipped default keybindings, so the product-default policy requires human review. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

families with recorded requests: include `family.records > 0` alongside the
existing token and cost checks, preserving the current summary-row and Day/Hour
column behavior.

Family rows count requests, so a family whose buckets carry requests but no tokens or cost keeps its row and Day/Hour column.

Problem
Usage groups spend by harness, but harnesses run each other's vendors' models: Claude and GPT through Pi, GPT through Claude Code. Now that Pi is counted (#17848), most Claude and GPT spend on a Pi-heavy machine sits in the "Pi" row, and the page can't answer "how much went to each model vendor?"
Change
A Group by: Harness · Model switch in the Usage header, left of the metric control (keys
H/M, disabled on Limits like the period). Model re-keys the per-row list, the period chart and the Breakdown → Day/Hour table by the vendor that made the model. Totals, the cost and token mixes and Breakdown → Model are the same in both views; Harness renders exactly as before.packages/shared/src/usageModelFamily.tsderives the vendor from the model ID, after the user's model aliases. First match wins:openai-codex/gpt-6-1-sol→ OpenAI,relay/moonshotai/kimi-k3→ Moonshot.deepseek-r1-distill-llama-70b→ DeepSeek, whilemuseum-7bmatches nothing.Tools/summaries, which carries no model.mergeUsagealso returns per-family totals and per-periodbyFamilymaps. The provider fields are unchanged, and no server or contract change is needed.docs/user/usage.mddocuments the switch and the shortcuts.Families cover the vendors behind T3's built-in harnesses plus a few common open-weight ones (Meta, Moonshot, Z.ai, DeepSeek, Xiaomi, Alibaba, Mistral). A model alias covers anything else. Families show a color only, with no new logos; vendors with a built-in harness reuse that harness's color.
This is web and desktop only. Mobile keeps the harness view and could follow separately.
Scope and approval
@juliusmarminge asked for this as a smaller follow-up when closing #15889: "The model-family Group by is a separate feature. If you want to pursue it, please open a smaller PR for just that part, rebased on current
main" (comment; also #12288). Compared with #15889 it drops the Pi reader (now #17848), the server-side estimated-cost field and the≈marks, the cross-harness model rows and mobile.Verification
Automated:

Manual:
main(ed0f7b9) and this branch in dev mode, with fresh state, against the same Claude Code, Codex and Pi history (Pi sessions read from a frozen copy throughPI_CODING_AGENT_SESSION_DIR, so both runs see identical data). Cost, 30 days:mainexactly: $2,720.76 total; Codex $6.64, Claude Code $1.86, Pi $2,712.26.Tools/summaries, which is also the "Other" cost-type slice). Before (
main):After, Group by Harness: unchanged apart from the switch.
After, Group by Model: the same total, split by vendor across every harness.
Not checked: Windows (the change is platform-independent client code).
Written with Claude Opus 5.5 in Pi, orchestrated from T3 Code.
