Problem

Selecting a skill whose catalog name contains spaces splits it into a first-word chip and leftover text. For example, choosing Poteto Mode produces [Poteto] Mode, and duplicated token parsers can resolve the first word as a different skill.

Change

Serialize names that need quoting as one escaped token, and share its parsing across composer chips, timeline chips, copying, and the existing Codex/Claude/Cursor/OpenCode 2/Pi dispatch paths. Both $ and /skill: picker entries and artifact-template prompts use the serializer on web/desktop and mobile. Preserve quoted source before web Markdown consumes escapes or formatting. The mobile Enriched renderer recognizes quoted names as skill links. Quoted skills own one non-overlapping composer range, including names containing mentions or file links.

- $Poteto Mode → [Poteto] Mode
+ $"Poteto Mode" → [Poteto Mode]

Bare names, digit-leading names, and currency amounts keep their existing behavior. Codex reads $Poteto Mode as a Poteto mention, so names it cannot read as text keep their quoted form and go out as structured skill inputs, resolved by exact name and path from Codex's own catalog. Single-word names keep Codex's native $name text form. Claude and Cursor dispatch known names without whitespace as slash commands; names containing whitespace remain quoted literal references so they cannot invoke a different first-word command. OpenCode 2 resolves the complete name against its catalog and attaches the matching skill IDs. Pi's injected extension decodes quoted names before it loads skill instructions. No wire contract or provider capability is added.

Scope and approval

Fixes the failure confirmed in the maintainer's triage of #10957. That report was closed by its author as a duplicate, but the maintainer confirmed it was distinct. Related #9244 fixed digit-leading names in the same parser and did not support spaces; #8982 was closed unmerged.

The client and adapter changes all preserve the same catalog name through the existing skill-selection flow.

Verification

  • Before: Selecting the installed Poteto Mode skill in the real browser picker rendered [Poteto] Mode.
Before: skill name split at the space
  • After: Both picker entry paths render one Poteto Mode chip; copying retains its complete token, and reloading retains the chip.
After: complete skill name in one chip
  • Focused tests pass across the shared tokenizer, Markdown grammar, rich-text round trip, timeline rendering/copying, mobile selection/copying, and Codex/Claude/Cursor/OpenCode 2 dispatch tests. Regression coverage includes escaped quotes/backslashes and CR/LF, Markdown characters, nested inline references, malformed tokens, ECMAScript whitespace, currency aliases including supplementary Unicode symbols, numeric skill names, and currency prose.
  • After merging main at e9298af, the fix follows the new orchestrator paths. Replay tests verify that OpenCode 2 catalog selection excludes unknown names and currency amounts while deduplicating repeated mentions.
  • After merging main at c01a3b7: Codex replay tests verify structured skill inputs on start and steer, including a Poteto/Poteto Mode first-word collision, a duplicated catalog path, and an ambiguous name that stays text only. New tests cover Pi quoted names, artifact-template prompts, and thread find labels. 3293 focused tests pass; server, shared, mobile, and Pi typechecks pass.
  • The provider review follow-up passes 164 driver and runtime adapter tests, including whitespace-containing names, first-word collisions, mixed references, and quoted single-word dispatch.
  • Shared, client-runtime, web, mobile, and server typechecks pass. Targeted lint and git diff --check pass.
  • After merging main at c5d7309, which replaced the mobile MD4C renderer with Enriched (feat(mobile): replace custom Markdown rendering with Enriched #16979), the branch's native Markdown protection is gone with it. Enriched's skill link matcher now recognizes $"Poteto Mode" and quoted single words, and resolves them to the complete catalog name. 3083 focused tests pass; mobile typecheck passes.
  • Browser checks used isolated development state and the actual installed skill catalog. No native mobile device or actual provider CLI invocation was tested; mobile and adapter behavior are covered by focused tests.

Merge Danger

Door: Two-way. Blast Radius: Skills. Existing unquoted references remain supported; quoted references persist in drafts and message text.

Known gap, unchanged by this PR: OpenCode 2 steer attaches no skills for any name. That belongs in a separate fix.

Model: GPT-6.1-Sol. Harness: Codex in T3 Code. Independent review: GPT-6-Astra. Latest main merge and provider follow-up: Claude Opus 5.5 in T3 Code, reviewed by GPT-6.1-Sol.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 58c0c

The change improves exact skill selection while preserving catalog-based controls in the examined integrations. No introduced authorization bypass was established. Remaining uncertainty about installed-skill trust and incomplete catalog responses warrants limited caution.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — In the examined Pi and Codex paths, a matching reference can activate a catalogued skill within the existing provider session. The token supplies a name, not a filesystem path. Exposure therefore depends on that session's installed catalog and existing execution authority; cross-tenant or broader environment reachability was not established.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Pi filters registered commands to skill sources, performs exact decoded-name lookup, and reads the path supplied by the matching command. These controls and instruction injection predate the PR; quoting expands the recognized name domain without adding token-controlled path selection.
  • observed — The examined Pi adapter supplies turn or steer message text to the prompt RPC, with attachment annotations added by its payload builder. This establishes a concrete input path but does not establish the complete upstream authorization chain or the trust policy for all registered skills and input-transforming extensions.
  • observed — Claude requires an exact known name without whitespace before producing a slash invocation. Whitespace-containing names remain literal, preventing the quoted multiword reference from being rewritten into a first-word command.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Pi deduplicates decoded names within an input event. Unknown names are skipped, and failed instruction reads notify rather than selecting another skill or path. Instruction blocks are accumulated locally before the transformed input is returned.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Clarify which input sources and installed skills are trusted for automatic instruction injection. If untrusted content can reach the input hook, define the required provenance or authorization control rather than treating name recognition as authorization.
  • proposed — Define whether Codex catalog errors can hide competing same-name skills and exercise that case. If errors make unique-path resolution non-authoritative, preserve literal text instead of dispatching a structured skill; the available schema alone does not establish that requirement.

Reviewed the completed CodeRabbit review on d17145e4d9.

The docstring-coverage warning is advisory: .coderabbit.yaml does not set a coverage requirement, and the repository's AGENTS.md asks for useful comments that explain usage rather than narrating behavior. The new shared token helpers and Markdown extension have usage comments. Adding blanket docstrings to existing functions and parser-state callbacks would add noise outside this focused fix, so I am leaving those unchanged. All required CI checks, including lint and typecheck, pass.

The suggested native-provider identity check remains an explicitly disclosed verification limit: this PR verifies adapter text with focused tests and does not add a provider capability or claim end-to-end CLI verification. The real-browser selection, copying, and reload checks demonstrate the reported rendering fix.

Bugbot reported that it is disabled for this repository. CodeRabbit completed the full 22-file review with no actionable comments. The PR remains a draft.

Approvability

Verdict: Not approved

Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This fixes spaced skill names across web, mobile, Markdown, and several provider adapters, but it also introduces substantial shared parsing logic and changes provider request and dispatch behavior. The cross-cutting production impact warrants human review despite the extensive regression tests.

Codex reads `$Poteto Mode` as the `Poteto` mention, so quoted names it
cannot read stay quoted in the text and go out as structured skill
inputs resolved from its own catalog. Pi's injected extension now
decodes quoted names, artifact-template prompts serialize their skill
name, and mobile keeps quoted skills whole inside converted HTML.
