Request time out issue repeatedly

I'm getting this issue repeatedly , at first it was going so smooth , after some time , it has stuck at endless loop of request time out issue , pls help I have searched everywhere but still didn't figure out how to resolve this issue

Hi Felix, Thank you for your response and for looking into this issue. Regarding the request timeout problem, I've observed a significant change in behavior based on how the Gemini API is integrated. Initially, I was using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) on the server side and directly calling the mcp tools using Gemini API from the frontend. This setup consistently led to the timeout errors that I reported. However, after refactoring my code to move the Gemini API calls entirely to the server side and then accessing those backend routes via an API from the frontend, the request timeout errors have completely disappeared. It seems that the issue might be related to the way the API calls were being made directly from the frontend in conjunction with MCP on the server. I hope this information helps in pinpointing the root cause of the problem. Thanks, Mohhit

Hey! I ran into a similar pattern in our bug knowledge base and thought this might help.

What's happening: Three compounding issues: (1) SDK default requestTimeoutMs is 60s — any slow tool call triggers -32001. (2) resetTimeoutOnProgress defaults to false, so even if server sends progress notifications, client still times out. (3) The 'works then breaks' pattern is caused by SSE/StreamableHTTP transport race condition where _transport in protocol.js becomes undefined after reconnection or idle session timeout (IdleTrackingBackgroundService kills session → client POSTs to dead sessionId → 404 → infinite -32001 loop). The content-all.js error confirms a browser extension (Chrome MCP client) losing its connection endpoint.

What worked for us:

Apply all three fixes: (1) Increase timeout on every callTool/request call by passing { timeout: 300000 } (5 min) in RequestOptions. (2) Enable resetTimeoutOnProgress: true so progress notifications keep the connection alive. (3) For the infinite loop after session death: if using StreamableHTTP, catch -32001 errors and reconnect by clearing sessionId and calling connect() again. If using SSE in a browser extension, ensure only ONE client is connected per SSE endpoint (concurrent clients cause response misrouting → timeout). Upgrade to @modelcontextprotocol/sdk >= 1.12+ which includes PR #849 fixes for ping timer reset on keepalive.
