Infrastructure: Add a Win32 (Paper) Storybook endpoint #4259
Description
Goal
Deliver a Win32 Paper Storybook endpoint using @office-iss/react-native-win32 and the prebuilt @office-iss/rex-win32 host without replacing Windows Fabric or macOS. Parent: #4275.
Status - 2026-10-01
Completed endpoint milestone; remains closed. The endpoint is maintained in apps/storybook, uses the shared CLI and native Windows provider, and has its own active PR smoke job.
Delivered
- Shared app entry/component stories with explicit Win32 platform discovery and Metro resolution.
-
yarn storybook bundle --win32,run --win32, and ownedsmoke --win32 --mode stories-and-teststhrough the shared package. - Distinct
Agentic Components Storybook (Win32)identity, Paper/REX runtime, and shared source-built Windows helper. - Desktop Paper chrome, native Callout-backed optional pop-outs, and scoped REX Unicode-regex compatibility transform.
- Platform manifests, authenticated navigation/readiness, native root checks, named WDIO tests, and owned process/input cleanup.
- PR job, native build/doctor diagnostics, and always-upload artifacts.
Current main generates 152 included Win32 stories and discovers 29 cases across 17 stories. October 1 CI reports 7 passes / 22 skips. Win32 is a prebuilt-host endpoint; build --win32 intentionally remains unsupported.
Bugs and follow-ups
#4344 separately tracks the Accordion/ListItem Paper-host crashes currently handled by explicit catalog exclusions. Those are missing coverage, not a reason to reopen endpoint delivery or claim complete catalog equality.
#4349 owns authoritative required CI and callback/catalog reconciliation; #4345 owns driver release qualification; #4348 owns capture fidelity/DPI/provenance. #4328 owns future visual-comparison reports.
