Summary

In-row mobile voice recorder (PromptInput, VoiceRecorderStrip)

  • While recording on mobile, the composer's own controls row becomes the recorder: discard (X), a live status strip, the mic and send. Nothing renders above the composer, so the floating text-to-speech button is never collided with and messages are never covered.
  • Strip states: starting, recording (elapsed timer, level bars, gesture hint), release to send, release to discard, transcribing, transcribing and sending.
  • Every outcome is an explicit tap target: send, stop and insert as text, discard. Sending by voice during transcription upgrades the in-flight result to transcribe-and-send.
  • Hold the mic and drag horizontally: 24px right arms send, 96px left arms discard, with the same hysteresis and haptics as before. The vertical swipe, the upward pill and its invisible touch catcher are removed, and VoiceStatusOverlay and its animation are deleted.
  • Taps on the recorder row are treated as inside the voice gesture, so discard and send are not pre-empted by the stop-on-outside-tap handler. Desktop is unchanged.

Session opens at the latest message (useAutoScroll, SessionDetail)

  • Sessions could open at the top with no scroll-to-latest button: the full-screen loading state and the message skeleton mount before the scroll container exists, so a first scroll against a missing or skeleton element was marked as done and the scroll listeners never attached. Linked-server sessions and reopening the app hit this most.
  • useAutoScroll now takes the container element plus an isContentReady flag instead of a ref, so the initial scroll and the listener setup run once the real transcript is on screen. SessionDetail tracks the element in state and derives one loading flag for both the skeleton and readiness.

Validation

  • pnpm run test:frontend: 272 files, 3305 tests pass (new coverage: recorder row states, send/discard/drag gestures, send during transcription, desktop unchanged; hook scrolls and attaches listeners when the container mounts after messages arrive)
  • pnpm typecheck:frontend: clean
  • pnpm lint:frontend: clean
  • Simulator (iPhone 17 Pro, mobile Safari): starting and recording states, slide-left and X discard, mic released afterwards; session opens at the bottom, scrolling up shows the latest button, tapping it returns to the bottom

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Improved mobile voice recording with horizontal drag gestures: drag right to send and left to discard.
    • Added mobile recording controls with elapsed time, waveform animation, discard/send actions, and clearer processing states.
    • Added handling for pending transcription and recording cancellation.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improved message auto-scrolling by waiting until session content is ready.
    • Prevented unintended outside-pointer cancellation during mobile composer interactions.
  • Style
    • Increased sizing of key mobile composer controls for easier tapping.
  • Tests
    • Expanded coverage for voice recording gestures, mobile controls, transcription states, and auto-scrolling behavior.

📝 Walkthrough

The mobile voice recorder now uses horizontal send and discard gestures, an in-row status strip, and explicit controls. Auto-scroll receives the message container directly and waits for transcript readiness before scrolling.

Changes: Mobile Voice Recording

Layer / File(s) Summary
Recorder status strip
frontend/src/components/message/VoiceRecorderStrip.tsx, frontend/src/index.css
Adds a state-driven recorder status strip with elapsed time and animated waveform bars. Adds the waveform animation utility.
Recording gestures and composer controls
frontend/src/components/message/PromptInput.tsx, frontend/src/components/message/VoiceStatusOverlay.tsx, frontend/src/components/message/PromptInput.stt.test.tsx
PromptInput handles horizontal gestures for sending and discarding, and shows recorder controls in the mobile composer row. Tests cover recording controls, send and discard actions, transcription states, gestures, and desktop behavior.

Transcript Auto-Scroll

Layer / File(s) Summary
Container and readiness handling
frontend/src/hooks/useAutoScroll.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useAutoScroll.test.tsx
useAutoScroll accepts a direct container element and an isContentReady flag. Tests cover a container that mounts after messages arrive and scrolling that waits for readiness.
Session transcript readiness
frontend/src/pages/SessionDetail.tsx, frontend/src/pages/__tests__/SessionDetail.scroll-floating.test.tsx
SessionDetail passes the message container and transcript readiness to useAutoScroll. Tests check readiness while messages load and after loading completes.

Reduced-motion users may still see the waveform animate, and discarding a recording may immediately start another one. These are bounded issues, but both should be fixed before merge.

Preserve click suppression after drag-to-discard.

handleVoicePointerEnd sets click suppression before calling cancelVoiceInput(). cancelVoiceInput() calls resetVoiceGestureState(), which clears the suppression. A subsequent click can restart recording after the discarded recording is aborted.

Define the waveform animation as a Tailwind theme token.

VoiceRecorderStrip.tsx applies both animate-voice-wave-bar and motion-reduce:animate-none. Because the custom animation rule is unlayered, it can override the layered reduced-motion utility. Reduced-motion users may still see the waveform animation.
