## What Agent mode dims

The commands that act on the browse content have nothing to act on while the conversation fills the detail column, so the menu bar dims them: **Refresh**, **Save**, **Add Row**, **Restore Previous Values…**, **Preview SQL**, **Show Results**, **Show Query History**, **New Tab**, **Open Quickly…**, **Export Tables…**, **Import Data…**, **Server Dashboard**, **Back** and **Forward**.
The tabs, the grid, the editor and the object browser stay where you left them, out of sight, so the menu bar dims every command that acts on them and every sheet they open: **New Table…**, **Execute Query**, **Copy**, **Export Tables…**, **Server Dashboard** and **Query Insights** among them.

The [toolbar](/features/connection-window#what-each-context-leaves-out) drops Refresh and the commit control outright, and dims any of the rest you added to it.

Everything that acts on the window or the session stays live: **Switch Connection…**, **Close Connection**, **Safe Mode Level**, **Mode**, and every command under **File > Session**.

`Cmd+W` closes the database or the connection, as it does in a window with no tab left. The tabs behind the conversation are never closed by it.

## Tabs and windows

`Cmd+W` closes whatever is in front. In a connection window that is the current editor tab, and the File menu reads **Close Tab**. Settings, MCP Activity, a JSON or PHP viewer, and the welcome window have no tabs, so it closes the window and the menu reads **Close Window**. While the connections strip holds the keyboard it closes the highlighted entry, and so it does when the database you are on has no tab left; the menu names the entry, and an entry that is its connection's last one takes the connection with it. `Cmd+1` through `Cmd+9` count the tabs in the strip, which are the current database's.

On Oracle, a pluggable database shows its own sessions and metrics, and the root container shows every container's. On a Redis Cluster, the sessions and metrics come from one primary, the node TablePro sends commands without a key to, and the slow log comes from every node. While a `MULTI` block is open on a Redis connection, the panels say so and send nothing into it until it ends.

To put two connections side by side, right-click an entry and choose **Open in New Window**. It moves with its tabs, its session, and anything unsaved. The item is absent when the window has no other connection left to show.

On a live connection the same menu opens **Server Dashboard** and **Query Insights** for that connection, switching to it first. Server Dashboard is listed only on servers that have one, and neither is listed while the connection is in [Agent mode](/features/agent-mode).

A first window opens at 1200x800 and goes no smaller than 720x480; later windows reuse the last size and position. Whether a new one joins a tab group follows **Prefer tabs when opening documents** in System Settings > Desktop & Dock. Inside a group, **Window > Show Previous Window Tab**, **Window > Show Next Window Tab**, **Window > Move Tab to New Window** and **Window > Merge All Windows** apply; all four dim outside one. `Ctrl+Tab` goes to editor tabs first and switches window tabs only when the window has no other editor tab to go to. Those are macOS window tabs, which hold whole windows, not the editor tab strip, which holds one connection's editors.
