🐞 File renamer appends . to .gitignore file #1966

I wanted to add a .gitignore file to my project and while renaming, there was some unwanted "magic" behavior that added a file extension to my file in the rename text field, namely a . at the end which caused the text edit contents to read .gitignore.. There should be no magic behavior in renaming whatsoever since this is a developer tool, not a consumer one.

To Reproduce

  1. Open a project without a .gitignore file
  2. Choose "New file" in the context menu
  3. Enter .gitignore

Expected Behavior

I can read what I typed, without any magic behavior adding a ..
