State of Mise on Android (Termux)

The state

• The curlbash installer works
• The default arm64 binary misses some libraries, have to force to musl in the installer for it to run
• Any install fails with a DNS error even though the Internet is working.

Suggested roadmap

• Enable musl in the installer if uname -o is equal to Android
• Find a way to fix the DNS issue (I heard of DNS related issues in musl, not sure how it's the state of that today)

I'm getting the following error using the latest curl bash (v2025.12.7):

"/data/data/com.termux/files/home/.local/bin/mise"
     has unexpected e_type: 2

Same issue on pixel7, whatever v2025.x.x versions, i did not tried older. I would be interested as well for android support.

I'm curious to see if I can compile it myself on the phone.

Some context: this is the only thing holding me back to effectively work using my phone. I have other projects using just + asdf which I use claude code with.

@mrjk @igorgatis Perhaps give this a shot. I discovered this tool a few days ago and compiled it directly on Termux using a glibc-based Rust platform and the NDK, and it seems it is working fine though i haven't tried everything. Thanks to termux glibc packages, we can use rustup and Rust-based tools natively on Termux. We don’t actually need the bionic version of mise; we can build it against our Termux's glibc, but all we need is a small grun wrapper for mise to verify glibc-built elf binaries. The rest, such as scripts and self-contained musl binaries, doesn’t require the glibc-runner. I chose to cross-compile for Bionic because Rust-based projects are quite easy to cross-compile, and it was a learning experience for me. I’m not a programmer, though; I used a cli-based agent to help me figure things out. Lol.

The tool itself is bionic and can run directly on Termux without the need for glibc-runner. However, to install and run glibc compiled tools like Java, Node etc, you will need to install the glibc-runner.
